Escarpment Nina Rose 2016 91/100 4.5stars
Made from 100% pinot noir grown on their vineyard on Te Muna Road, this is a richly expressed rose offering generosity and opulence. Lifted aromas of nectarine, rockmelon, raspberry coulis and floral with savoury undertones on the nose, followed by a concentrated palate that shows excellent depth of flavour and mouthfeel, wonderfully structured by mouth-watering acidity. It would be a fabulous drink on a warm summer’s day with antipasto. At its best: now to 2018. $24.00. www.escarpment.co.nz. Dec 2016.

Escarpment Rose de Noir 2014 93/100 5stars
A gorgeous first release of methode traditionnelle from this outstanding pinot noir specialist, this is made from 100% pinot noir from their vineyard on Te Muna Road; 2-hour skin contact, fermented in old oak barrels then matured on lees for a year before the secondary fermentation in the bottle. Seductively complex and fragrant, the bouquet shows strawberry, floral, rockmelon and yeasty characters. The palate shows lovely weight and fine texture, delivering excellent focus as well as generosity, wonderfully structured by bright acidity. Lovely poise and balance. At its best: now to 2020. $35.00. www.escarpment.co.nz. Dec 2016.
